This dive spot
is accessible as a shore dive. This is part of the peninsula which
starts on the southern most part of the East (a.k.a., Main) Wall right
before the South Wall. This peninsula, when followed westward will
lead to some rocky structures, including some walls in the 5-30 foot
range. At the base of these walls is a ledge which extends 10-20 feet
into the canyon, followed by a drop-off. The structure varies depending
on where you explore, and there are similar structures deeper in the
canyon including 'soft' sandstone formations which leave cascading
white sand stone trails down the canyon slopes. If you continue to
the end of the peninsula you will reach a point, with a ridge which
continues into the depths in a westward direction. Going around the
point will lead you east, back towards shore before the canyon slopes
begin their westward direction again as the South Wall. There is not
a lot of life on these walls, although there are several species of
Rockfish present. On one of the walls we have observed a single Metridium.
The pictures presented
on the right were taken on July 2005; the scope and perspective of
the site is difficult to capture in a photograph, but these pictures
do show some of the interesting structures and caves which exist at
this spot.
