MAX DEPTH: 105 fsw

The High Seas was originally built at the San Pedro boat works in 1945, she was a Yard Patrol craft designated YP-621. At 128 feet in length she was a pretty good sized boat. After the war she was sold as surplus and converted into a Purse Seine fishing vessel. In 1970 she was cruising home in rough seas when the stern suddenly opened up. At the last second a small skiff was launched and the crew escaped just before she slipped beneath the waves with a full load of tuna on board. Today the high seas lies in approx 110 fsw off Point Loma. She was a wood hulled vessel and has deteriorated significantly, presenting little opportunity for penetration. At its highest point it stands approx 25 ft off the bottom. Due to the condition of the wreck and the presence of fishing nets its very disorienting to dive. Be careful and use a reel to avoid doing a free ascent in the nearby channel. The wreck is home to lots of life, including some large ling cod and rockfish. It's a pretty cool wreck to dive and somedays the visibility can easily top 40 ft.

The wreck has been relatively untouched in the last 10 years, although when it first sank it was visited by a small group of divers. Although the coordinates of this wreck were lost to the general public over time, they were passed down from diver to diver over the years. To ensure the coodinates are preserved and not lost again, they are listed above. As with all dive sites listed here, and on a on a plethora of other websites, dive these sites at your own risk and always within your training.
