Information regarding the P-38 wreck and its history can be found on the California Wreck Divers website; we recommend checking this site for detailed information regarding the events which led to the crash of the P-38.

As of March 2005 the wreck remains mostly intact. There is one .50 caliber gun and ammo boxes are still remaining, the wings skin have deteriorated and the structural supports are clearly visible. Video of the P-38 and its condition, as of March 2005, can be observed in the video on the right. The location of this wreck is closely guarded to protect the wreck from divers wanting to salvage artifacts off the small plane - as it stands, there is not much left worth salvaging due to deterioration and past salvaging efforts.

The wreck is covered in strawberry anemones and is also home to Wolf Eels and several species of adult fish including Lingcod, several varieties of Rockfish, schools of Blacksmiths and many invertebrates. The visibility ranges significantly with reports of up to 80 feet of visibility on ideal days; typically it is around 10-20 feet. Currents do pick up here and if you do not descend on top of the wreck you will be doing a sand dive as there are no other discernible structures in this area.
